MALUHIA AT WAILEA WINS TWO ASID INTERIOR DESIGN AWARDS

Contemporary Style and Antique Procurement Garner Recognition for Customized Residences at Maluhia, Set Standard for Two New Homes Under Construction

WAILEA, MAUI (November 18, 2004) – The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), Hawaii chapter, has bestowed its annual competition’s highest honor, the Award of Excellence on not one, but two residential homes at Maluhia at Wailea. Pu’u Hale (Hill House) and Hale Ola (House of Life) were deemed the best two interior design projects in Hawaii for the past year.

A panel of judges from ASID San Diego Chapter reviewed the entries. Each winning home’s design was conceptualized by the developer, PRM Realty Group, LLC and its associate company, Crisscross, LLC, a procurement firm led by PRM executive Larry Frej, who is also a designer and former objects conservator at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. “The awards are a tribute to PRM’s commitment to creating exceptional luxury residences and its efforts to be pioneers in residential development and interior design,” said Frej.

In Hale Ola, the blend of contemporary and antique creates a duality of style – elegant formal and comfortable casual. Extensive wood paneling, grillwork and pierced stone walls are featured throughout. Custom designed furniture and carefully selected objects d’art are focal points in each room. An important collection of contemporary, non-objective Chinese paintings completes the home. This artwork is complemented by collections of period Neolithic, Tang and Sung dynasty pottery and a significant assemblage of Oceanic tribal art.

“When we conceived the interiors of Hale Ola, we envisioned sophisticated, well-traveled buyers – a family who gathered favorite ‘finds’ along the way and brought them home to Maluhia,” said Frej. “Most likely the couple would have a love of music, so we even included a baby grand piano. We are delighted with the ASID awards and are especially pleased that the actual buyers connected immediately to the home interior package.”

Pu’u Hale evokes the simple elegance inherent in the great family estates of Old Hawaii, when fine craftsmanship was the standard. Hand-hewn furniture is surrounded by exquisite fabrics and built-in cabinets and accented by a collection of the works of contemporary Hawaii artists. Each smartly appointed room opens to lush landscaping for indoor-outdoor living, spectacular ocean views and distinct privacy. Pu’u Hale was Maluhia’s first completed home and was purchased – appointed with extraordinary furnishings – as soon as it was finished.

TWO MORE UNIQUE HOMES READY FOR WINTER OCCUPANCY

With demand for luxury residences at the highest point ever, potential buyers eagerly await the completion of the next two Maluhia masterworks. Each home’s design is truly one of a kind and specifically conceptualized for the lot on which it sits.

Hale Luakaha (House That is Pleasant) will be ready for occupancy in December 2004. The fully furnished home on Site 6 is set on a half an acre and is approximately 6,800 square feet with four bedrooms including two master suites with private lanais, each with separate study and master baths, plus two guest suites with baths, a powder room and separate pool bath. Dramatic deeded views of the Pacific Ocean with a large private swimming pool and spa as well as private beach access via Maluhia's private Beach Club, staffed by a full-time resident concierge, insure maximum enjoyment of this tropical paradise.

Hale Luakaha, features a traditional Hawaiian architectural pavilion design with a floating staircase. Focal points of the home are its wood and stone carving details along with an abundance of glass doors and windows that reveal Maui’s tropical paradise. The interior art can be best described as “African to Eskimo” with a collection of ethnographic and tribal art from South East Asia, New Guinea, Australia, North America and Africa along with custom carpets hand-woven in Tibet. The asking price for Hale Luakaha, fully furnished, is $8.7 million.

Hale Mohalu on Site 3, is 6,794 square feet situated on approximately a half-acre with sweeping Pacific views. Both the architecture and interior design of Hale Mohalu reflect a contemporary approach to traditional Japanese minimalist concepts of form and function. Unique hard woods chosen exclusively for Hale Mohalu for use in cabinetry, trim details and custom built-in furniture impart a simple, understated sensibility.

Architecturally, the home design centers around an engawa, or traditional Japanese interior courtyard with a graceful water feature. A collection of mid-20th century abstract Japanese prints and sculptures as well as contemporary lighting complete the home’s unassuming but elegant style. Hale Mohalu has three full master suites, a guest suite, a large functional back yard and large open lanais for true indoor/outdoor living. The home is expected to be complete by February and is listed at $8.7 million.
